For reference: On September 26, 2024, the UN General Assembly will hold a High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (UN HLM on AMR), where the UN Member State representatives will review and adopt the corresponding Political Declaration. This strategic document will serve as an important guideline for the next five years and is crucial for all stakeholders involved in fighting drug-resistant infections, including tuberculosis, which is considered a major factor in the “silent” pandemic of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Thanks to the active involvement of civil society and TB-affected communities, with the support of the Stop TB Partnership and in collaboration with country missions to the UN, the text of the Political Declaration on Antimicrobial Resistance has been significantly optimized in the context of TB and AMR issues compared to the zero draft proposed by the General Assembly in May 2024.
