Three representatives from the EECA region have been elected to the Community Delegation of the Board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria: Denis Godlevsky, regional coordinator of ITPC EECA; Valeriya Rachinskaya, director of the Department of Human Rights, Gender, and Community Development at “100% Life”; and Lyubov Vorontsova, representative of the Eurasian Women’s Network on HIV and a member of the steering committee of the International Community of Women Living with HIV.

The delegation consists of a group of up to forty people from around the world living with HIV and affected by tuberculosis and malaria, who are actively working on issues related to the Global Fund’s activities. In total, the Community Delegation has welcomed 6 new members: Priscilla Ama Addo (president of Young Health Advocates Ghana), Lulu Ayub Nyanzi (national coordinator of the community-led initiative for women and network led by key populations), Ida Sawadago (communications specialist from Burkina Faso), Denis Godlevsky, Valeriya Rachinskaya, and Lyubov Vorontsova.

The main task of the Delegation is to closely collaborate with the Board and Committee of the Global Fund on policy and advocacy issues. The Delegation aims to be accountable to the communities it represents and is coordinated by leadership that includes a Board member and their deputy, who officially represent the Delegation at the Global Fund.

The work of the Delegation is based on three key principles:

  1. Right to Participation: People living with HIV, as well as those affected by tuberculosis and malaria, have the right to meaningful participation at all levels of the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs and policies aimed at combating these diseases.
  2. Equal Rights for All: All people living with or affected by HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, age, religion, or social status, should have a voice in this fight and access to quality prevention, treatment, care, and support.
  3. Respect and Dignity: The importance of human life, dignity, and the equality of all people underlies the work of the Delegation, alongside the goal of alleviating the suffering caused by these diseases.
