The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) is seeking three new members, two of which - from affected communities to join their Board of Directors (consisting of twenty four members - seven regional representatives, four scientific section representatives, eleven individual member representatives and two members nominated by the President).
All nominations are welcome but the membership is asked to carefully consider the following when making nominations:
1. The importance of sustaining the representation on the Board by two members who have been directly affected by TB, HIV, or lung health problems such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. We currently only have one such representative.
2. The Bye-laws statement that “Particular attention should be paid to parity between the sexes on the Board of Directors”. The current ratio of men to women on the board is 18:6.
3. The Bye-laws statement that “It is desirable for each of the Individual Members to be a member from a different country”. Confirmed on the board for 2016/2017 are Individual Members from Finland, USA, Switzerland, Australia, Kenya, Japan, Canada, and Hong Kong.
4. The fact that many of the priorities of the Board require expertise in the following areas: accountancy and finance, management sciences, law and communications.
Nominations will be considered by the Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee will ensure that all nominees with completed nomination documents will be put forward for election. The Nominating Committee will recommend a slate of candidates that it feels best matches the overall needs of the Board and the criteria outlined above. The membership will be able vote either electronically or at the General Assembly which will be held during the 47th Union World Conference on Lung Health in Liverpool in October 2016.
Those wishing to apply must fulfil the following conditions:
1. Have paid the 2016 membership fee
2. Complete the application form and submit a short curriculum vitae
3. Receive the endorsement of their application by two Union members
4. Be willing and able to undertake the responsibilities of being a Union Board Member, including being available for the first Board Meeting in Liverpool. This will take place after the General Assembly on 29 October2016. Please click here for further details.
The deadline for application is the 31st of August 2016.
This is a prolonged deadline due to lack of eligible candidates. It is important that people affected by TB and possessing skills and experience in accountancy and finance, management sciences, law or communications apply.
Please do not hesitate to contact The Union through nominatingcommittee@theunion.org if you require further information.
